The perfect suburban couple with a dark twisted hobby
My Lovely Wife is about the picture-perfect couple, with picture perfect children and a beyond admirable lifestyle, but lurking behind this polished exterior is the couples’ favourite pastime: Murder. Only the most loving husband would seek out women for his wife to murder and only the most loved wife would include her husband in her sins. But when the cops are on their trail what fate awaits this lovely couple?
Downing’s debut is one of the most compelling thrillers I have had the pleasure of reading in years. There was never a dull moment throughout this book, in fact I was finding it hard to not read in one sitting. The character development and sprinkling of clues throughout the story lead you along to an unexpected plot twist and a mammoth of a finale. One of the things I found most enthralling was the husband as the narrator; this style successfully blurred the lines between good and evil, normal and psychotic until I was convinced a murder date night might not be a bad idea. I cannot praise this book enough! I highly recommend it if you’re in a reading slump, looking to get lost in a novel or just enjoy an epic thriller.
