This is what nightmares are made of.
The Whisper Man is a local legend in Featherbank – but no not the good kind of legend. The Whisper Man is the notoriously evil, vial and nightmare-inducing kind of legend. Frank Carter wandered through Featherbank, whispering to young boys through their bedroom windows at night; coaxing and grooming them until an opportunity arose for kidnapping. Thankfully the Whisper Man was caught, but the legend of the Whisper Man continued to be passed down on the playground for years to come.
Twenty years later, another boy goes missing and the circumstances are akin to those of The Whisper Man. Tom Kennedy moves to Feather bank with his young son, Jake, after the untimely death of his wife. Tom and Jake are unacquainted with the town’s dark history and what the Whisper Man has in store of them…
Alex North manifests every parent’s darkest fear into a tangible terrifying reality in The Whisper Man. The complexity of each character and their carefully crafted relationships with one another creates a fictional world that feels frighteningly realistic. While reading this book I was checking and double-checking for monsters under my bed and wary of any nighttime sound that might be a harsh whisper – needless to say, I had nightmares. This book had me gasping out loud on more than one occasion and was the definition of an all-consuming read. This is a great book for any reader fond of horror and looking for a thrilling next read. After this emotional roller coaster, I’m keenly waiting for more from North.
